MARVIN BILECK

BIOGRAPHY

Marvin Bileck was born in Passaic, New Jersey in 1920. He is a graduate of the Cooper Union School of Art in New York City and did additional study at the London School of Architecture and Columbia University. Bileck received a Fullbright Fellowship to France where he continued his studies in the Cabinet des Dessins at the Louvre Museum while working in the printing ateliers of Lacouriere and Desjouibert.

His work has been widely represented in gallery exhibitions including A.I.R. Gallery and Landmark Gallery in New York City, Queens College Art Center, Westminster College Art Gallery (PA), Dartmouth College (NH), Maine Coast Artists Gallery, Islesford Artists Gallery (ME), Ann Weber Gallery (ME), Washington Art Association (CT), and Paesaggio Gallery (CT). In addition he has had work exhibited in the following museums: the metropolitan Museum of Art, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Chicago Art Institute, Queens Museum and the Slater Museum (CT). Bileck’s work is represented in numerous public and private collections throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.

William Zimmer, writing in the New York Times has said that “Marvin Bileck is an etcher and his etch line is delicate. The paradox he shows us is that delicacy and ruggedness can coexist perfectly.”
Marvin Bileck was also a highly respected and influential teacher at Philadelphia College of Art (now The University of the Arts) and Queens College where he is Professor Emeritus. His residence and studio are located in Winsted, Connecticut.
